Gopher Gymnastics Adds Five in 2023 Signing Class

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota gymnastics program welcomes five student-athletes to the signing class of 2023, head coach Jenny Hansen announced Thursday.
"We are thrilled to welcome the largest signing class in Gopher Women's Gymnastics history. These five young women are a tremendous fit to the culture of our program and are sure to continue the success of our program in all areas - academically, athletically and socially," Hansen said. "They not only bring great depth to our team on all events, but also a high level of competitive success on the USAG stage. Their abilities combine to create a great mix of difficult and exciting gymnastics as well as artistry that is sure to stand out in the NCAA."
Jordyn Lyden - Flips Gymnastics | Stillwater Area High School | Stillwater, Minn.
A Minnesota native, Lyden is a four-time national qualifier. In addition to her multiple Minnesota State floor, bars and beam titles, Lyden is a two-time Regional beam champion as well as a Regional bars champion. In 2022, she was a Region 4 bars and beam champion.
Lyden was coached by former Gopher Lori Kinder Roskoski, and joins the Gophers after signing her National Letter of Intent. She plans to major in business and marketing at the University of Minnesota.
"I chose the University of Minnesota because the minute I stepped on campus it felt like a family to me, I loved the energy and positivity that they created and I knew that this was going to be my future home," Lyden said. "I absolutely love the coaching staff and the team atmosphere as a whole, these bonds were indescribable. This school is like no other, and I can't wait to become a Golden Gopher!"
Jenna Olshefski - Universal Gymnasts | Grove City High School | Grove City, Ohio
At the 2021 Level 10 Nationals, Olshefski finished second on floor and third on vault. In addition to that, she finished sixth in the all-around at 2021 Level 10 Nationals. That same year, she won the Region 5 floor title and had top-2 finishes on floor and in the all-around. Also in 2021, she was the State floor champion. That same year, she attended JO National Team training camp and was a Region 5 All-Star Team member. Olshefski signed her National Letter of Intent with the Gophers and plans to major in psychology at the University of Minnesota.
"The culture and humility of a championship team at the University of Minnesota is unlike anything I've seen before," Olshefski said.
Marisa Fisher - Phenom Gymnastics | Valparaiso High School | Valparaiso, Ind.
In 2022 Fisher finished first in vault – as well as top-2 finishes on beam, floor and in the all-around – at the Illinois State championships, while also making America's Top 100 for vault. She also won Illinois State titles on vault, in the all-around and on floor in 2021. Fisher is a National Qualifier as well. Fisher recently signed her National Letter of Intent with the Gophers and plans to major in business at the University of Minnesota.
"I chose Minnesota because the second I stepped foot on the campus I fell in love," Fisher said. "I absolutely adored the campus, and I was looking for a place where I could not only excel as a gymnast but as a person. One thing that stuck out to me at Minnesota was how family-like their program was. I was really looking for a place to call home and a second family, and with the amazing coaching staff and team members I found just that at the University of Minnesota."
Kendall Landry - WOGA Gymnastics | Wakeland High School | Frisco, Texas
At the 2022 Region 3 championships, Landry finished in the top five on vault, bars and floor. In the 2022 Texas State championships, she also finished in the top five on vault, bars and floor. During her first Level 10 season, she finished 15th in the all-around at Nationals and third on bars. Landry qualified for Level 10 Nationals in 2021. In addition to that, she qualified for the Nastia Liukin Cup in 2020. Landry recently signed her Acceptance of Admission form and intends to enter the pre-dentistry path at the University of Minnesota.
"I chose the University of Minnesota because it felt like a place I could see myself thriving in and I loved the team, coaches and atmosphere," Landry said.
Sophia Nguyen - Legacy Gymnastics | Hopkins High School | Minnetonka, Minn.
In 2022, Minnesota-native Nguyen finished second in the all-around, vault and beam – as well as third on floor – at Level 10 Regionals. She also finished fifth in the all-around, fourth on beam, and sixth on vault and bars at the 2022 Level 10 Minnesota State championships. Nguyen also qualified for Nationals in 2022. She comes from the same club as current Gophers Emily Koch and Megan Steensland.
Nguyen was a 2021 Junior Olympic National Qualifier after finishing seventh in the all-around and fourth on vault at the 2021 Level 10 Regionals. At the 2021 Level 10 Minnesota State championships, Nguyen finished fourth in the all-around and fifth on beam. Nguyen recently signed her Acceptance of Admission form and plans to major in chemistry at the University of Minnesota.
"I chose Minnesota because the minute I met the team and coaches, I felt this very warm welcome and could tell how fun and encouraging this team would be," Nguyen said. "I could really see myself improve and make great friends along the way."
