MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota junior Shelby Frank has been honored by the USTFCCCA as the National Division I Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Minnesota Icebreaker, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Frank tossed the No. 1 mark in the nation this season in the weight throw in the opening week of action for the Maroon and Gold. Frank, a two-time outdoor All-American for the Gophers, launched a mark of 22.21m (72-10 1/2) to win the event and propelled the Grand Forks, N.D., native to the No. 2 spot in program history. Only National Champion Kaitlyn Long in 2018 has thrown further than Frank.

For Frank the honor is the national weekly honor is the first of her career. Frank has also been honored by the Big Ten three times, once indoors and twice outdoors last season.

As of Dec. 13, Frank holds one school record in the discus (58.85m) and is second of the weight throw list indoors. On top of her two All-America honors, Frank is a two-time medalist at the Big Ten Championships and is a three-time scorer for the Golden Gophers.

The Gophers will have a month between meets when the team competes on Jan. 13. Minnesota will have its top talent down at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite in Houston, Texas, and a portion of the team at the St. Thomas Invite.
