Gophers Set for Dual in Dallas Against SMU

Minnesota and SMU will compete this weekend at White Rock Lake.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota rowing program returns to the water this weekend with a dual in Dallas against No. 14 Southern Methodist at White Rock Lake. The action gets underway on Friday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. CT before continuing into Saturday, March 26 at 9:00 a.m. CT.
This weekend's competition will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The White Rock Lake racecourse runs south by southwest from Jackson Point (4311 W Lawther Drive), to the Filter Building adjacent to the boathouse. Recommended viewing sites providing the closest views of the final 500 meters include White Rock Boathouse, the rear of the Filter Building, and the White Rock Lake Trail atop the concrete dam south of the Filter Building. Limited free spectator parking is available at White Rock Boathouse (2920 White Rock Road, Dallas, TX 75214).

Minnesota opened the spring season earlier this month against Gonzaga in a dual at Otay Lake in Chula Vista, Calif. Originailly scheduled to be a scrimmage, the two programs agree to compete head-to-head with Minnesota winning three out of four races in the competition (Second Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four).
Academic Excellence
The Gophers set academic records for Academic All-Big Ten honorees (42), Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (23), CRCA Scholar Athletes (14) and team cumulative GPA (3.50) last season during the 2020-21 campaign, and things have only improved so far in 2021-22 as Minnesota improved its team cumulative GPA record to 3.54 in Fall 2021.
Gophers Name Trio of Captains
The University of Minnesota rowing program and head coach Alicea Strodel have announced team captains for the 2021-22 season with Lindsay Eliasen, Gabby Mullally and Casey Wempner leading the Maroon & Gold. Eliasen and Mullally return as captains for the second-straight year while Wempner joins the leadership group this year.
Looking Ahead
Minnesota will return to the water with the B1G Invitational on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 in Sarasota, Fla. The Maroon & Gold then compete against Iowa, Oregon State, USC and Wisconsin in Iowa City on Saturday, April 30 before the Big Ten championships on Sunday, May 15 in Indianapolis. The NCAA championships are scheduled for May 27-29 in Sarasota, Fla.
