Ohio State defeats Minnesota 4-0 in Minneapolis

On Friday, the University of Minnesota women's tennis team hosted the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes. This marked the two team's 51st meeting, each program the winners of 25 of the first 50. Ohio State improved that win total to 26 this afternoon, as they defeated Minnesota 4-0.

The Buckeyes remained undefeated in the Big Ten, and improved to 15-4 overall. With Friday's result, Minnesota moves to 14-9 on the year, 2-6 in Big Ten matches.

Ohio State won the doubles point through victories at No. 2 and No. 3.

In doubles play, Lucy Lu and Vasia Karvouni were tied two games apiece, before Ohio State won four consecutive games to close out the No. 3 match. Trailing two games to five, Rachel Hanford and Dalila Said fought back to 4-5, before eventually falling 4-6. The No. 1 match featuring Ekin Ercetin and Emilee Duong went unfinished, as the Gophers pair led the entirety of the match. This snapped Minnesota's five match streak of securing the doubles point.

Ohio State posted wins at each of the completed singles positions.

In singles, Ohio State earned straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6. At the sixth position, Lucy Lu suffered her first defeat of the season, as she moved to 4-1 on the year. A late surge from Rachel Hanford was not quite enough, as the No. 8 player Irina Cantos Siemers finished the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

The No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 matches went unfinished. Emilee Duong dropped the first set but held the lead in the second when the match finished. Maria Rizzolo won each game of the first set, before dropping the second set. Minnesota will return to action for Senior Day on Sunday.
