MINNEAPOLIS --Â The University of Minnesota track and field saw its discus record go down on Saturday along with 11 total program top 10 marks and times at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge, La. In total Minnesota won eight total events, four coming in the jumps and the other four being across the throws events.
Shelby Frank wasted no time in the first event of the day which began at 9:30 a.m. local time. Frank launched her fifth throw 58.00m (190-3) to win the event down in the Bayou, but also propel herself to the No. 5 position in the NCAA along with the No. 1 mark in the Big Ten this season.Â
Minnesota nearly saw another record fall when Finn Schirmer posted the No. 2 time in program history in the 100m. Schirmer's 10.28 edged him past current Gophers coach Ibrahim Kabia's time of 10.29 that was posted back in 2008. Schirmer's time put him just 0.03 behind teammate Kion Benjamin's school record time of 10.25 set in 2021.Â
Winning the triple jump, and posting the No. 3 mark in school history, was Tiera Robinson-Jones. Her winning jump of 13.14m (43-1 1/2) goes down as the No. 2 mark in the Big Ten this season and the 21st best in the nation. The Gophers had four different individuals post the sixth-best mark or time in school history with Maja Maunsbach (100m hurdles), Lexy Berger (Pole Vault), Akilah Lewis (100m) and Odell Frye (200m) registering those marks and times.
