Gopher Tennis to Conclude Fall Season at Drake Invite

DES MOINES, IA - This weekend, the University of Minnesota tennis program will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the Drake Bulldog Classic. The three-day event will take place from Nov. 3-5, and will be the Gophers' final tournament of the 2023 fall season. Minnesota student-athletes will match up against players from Drake, St. Thomas, and Missouri.
So Far This Season
The Maroon and Gold are coming off a bid at the ITA Central Region Championships, where doubles pair Sofia Pinto and Mia Liepert reached the quarterfinals of the main draw. Prior to that, the program opened the season with the annual Gopher Invite, then traveled to San Diego for the SDSU Fall Classic I.
Tournament Format
Play begins at 1:00 P.M. (CT) on Friday, Nov. 3. Doubles will be played as one set to six, while singles will be played as best two-out-of-three sets.
Gopher Participants
Six University of Minnesota student-athletes are set participate in singles and doubles competition throughout the weekend: sophomores Sofia Pizzoni, Aiva Schmitz, Sofia Pinto, and Anali Kocevar, and freshmen Emma Belluomini and Mia Liepert are all to play in their fourth tournament of the season.
