Hambrick Tosses Two-Straight Wins on Final Day of Gopher Indoor Classic

Minnesota finishes the inaugural Gopher Indoor Classic undefeated

GAME ONE
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -
The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 7-2 win over the Drake Bulldogs on Sunday.

Junior Jacie Hambrick (6-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minnesota (15-9). The right-hander went four shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Senior Bri Enter also made an impact in the circle for the Gophers, throwing two shutout innings while allowing two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Graduate Amani Bradley led the way offensively for the Gophers, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with two doubles. Sophomore Taylor Krapf provided a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Senior Natalie DenHartog also contributed, going 2-for-4 for Minnesota with an RBI.



HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Minnesota got an RBI single from freshman Jess Oakland, scoring Bradley from third base.

The Gophers then held the Bulldogs scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Minnesota brought home a pair, with one run driven in by DenHartog's single, which brought the Gophers lead to 3-0.

Minnesota kept Drake scoreless before building their lead to 7-0 in the fifth inning. The Gophers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Krapf. Drake put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still coasted to the 7-2 win.

GAME NOTES
» Bradley picked up three base hits in the game for Minnesota.
» The Gophers power output was led by Bradley, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

GAME TWO
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -
Junior Jacie Hambrick was dealing on Sunday, throwing a one-hit shutout to lead Minnesota  over the St. Thomas (MN) Tommies 8-0.

Hambrick (6-4) went the distance for Minnesota (16-9), giving up one hit, walking two and striking out three.

Junior Maddy Ehlke led the way offensively for the Gophers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Jess Oakland furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Breezy Burnett also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Minnesota with a home run and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minnesota scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Ehlke.

The Gophers then tacked on runs in the second inning when they scored five times. That five-run inning included two Minnesota home runs.
