Gopher Swim and Dive Set to Begin the Season Friday Night

MINNEAPOLIS - Gopher Swim and Dive is set to begin the 2024-2025 season in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday evening. The men's team will be competing in a dual meet against the University of South Dakota and the women will compete in a tri-meet versus the University of Nebraska and the University of South Dakota. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. CT inside the Devaney Center Natatorium, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The men's squad returns 21 to the roster, ten of which competed at the 2024 NCAA Championships. The men's team is currently ranked No. 22 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of American rankings
Bar Soloveychik returns to the "U" for his senior season after a stellar 2023-24 campaign. He was named an All-American in the 1650 free and an honorable mention All-American in the 500 free and he earned second team All-Big Ten honors. Soloveychik also holds school records in the 200 free (1:33.41), 500 free (1:33.41), 1000 free (8:52.95), 1650 free (14:41.40), and the 800 freestyle relay (6:16.25). While making his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games, Soloveychik helped Team Israel reach the Olympic finals in the 4x200m freestyle relay for the first time in history.
Kaiser Neverman returns for his fifth year at Minnesota after setting two school records last season: one in the 200 fly (1:42:47) and the other in the 200 IM (1:42:75). Neverman also holds Gopher records in the 200-medley relay (1:23:43) and the 800 free relay (6:16:25). He ranks second in school history in the 100 fly (46.02), fifth in the 100 breast (52.80), and tenth in the 100 free (43.17). Neverman won the W.I.N. Award (Whatever Is Needed) at the 2024 team banquet, is a 3x Academic All-Big Ten honoree, and a 2x CSCAA Second Team Scholar All-American (2021-22).
Davide Harabagiu returns for his sophomore campaign as a Gopher after being named a 4x Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season (Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Dec. 6, Dec. 7). Harabagiu holds the school record for the 100m fly (45.16) and ranks second in school history in the 100 back (46.49), fifth in the 50 free (19.43), and sixth in the 100 free (42.95). He was named Hardest Worker at the 2024 Team Banquet.
Casey Stowe will swim for his fifth season at Minnesota. Stowe holds the school record in the 200-medley relay (1:23:43) and ranks third in team history for the 200 back (1:42:93), fourth for the 100 back (46.66), and 13th for the 200 IM (1:46:30). He is a 2x Academic All-Big Ten honoree, was the 2023 winner of the team's Jerry McCaul Award (enthusiasm and dedication to the sport) and was named Most Improved at the 2022 team banquet.
YuTong Wang is coming off of an historic freshman season. He was named a 2024 All-American for both 1 and 3 meters, First-Team All-Big Ten, and a 3x Big Ten Diver of the Week (Oct. 10, Nov. 8, Dec. 6). Wang was the Big Ten Champion in the 1-meter with a score of 408.25. He also placed eight in the 1 and 3 meter at NCAAs.
The roster will also feature 9 newcomers in the fall: Luke Brennan, Jayden Edmonson, Braylon Goodno, Jaden Heinlein, Jacob Johnson, Luke Mychalowych, Joe Polyak, Joesph Tepper, and Owen Von Weihe. This class adds nine swimmers and one diver.
The women's team who is currently ranked No. 24 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of American rankings also returns 14, five of whom competed in the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Katie McCarthy comes off a strong 2023-2024 freshman season and looks to keep that momentum going forward. She was victorious in the 1650m free twice (Last Chance Meet, and Minnesota Invite). She also collected a pair of victories in her collegiate debut at the Nebraska/South Dakota Tri-Dual in both the 1000 and 500 free.
Morgan Thomas is also coming off a strong 2023-2024 freshman season. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the week the week of January 10th. She earned first place finishes in the 100 fly (Purdue/Iowa/Northwestern Quad Dual), 100 free (Pitt Dual, Tampa Dual, and Nebraska/South Dakota Tri-Dual), and 50 free (Tampa Dual, Nebraska/South Dakota Tri-Dual).
Hannah Cornish enters her senior campaign after a strong 2023-2024 season. She hit a B cut in the 100 free at the Minnesota Invite (48.73) placing her first. She also placed first in both the 100 and 50 free at the SMU Dual. Hannah was also named a 2023 CSCAA Second Team Scholar All-American.
Vivi Del Angel returns for her junior campaign after a standout sophomore season. She became the first Gopher women to win the platform national title with a score of (327.90). Besides her national title Vivi was named the Big Ten Diver of the year, All-American (Platform), and Big Ten Diver of the Week (12/6/23). She also ranks second in school history for platform (360.65) and seventh on 1-meter (324.95).
Elna Widerstrom returns after an incredible 2023-2024 freshman season. She earned All-American honors after placing sixth at NCAAs in the 1-meter with a score of 293.65. At Big Tens she earned third in the 1-meter and fifth in the 3-meter. She then spent some time away to dive for Sweden at the Diving Winter Nationals. There she placed sixth in the synchronized 3-meter.
The roster also features eleven new freshmen in Hannah Clark, Rachel Conley, Annalei Dow, Georgia Kahler, Mira Keller, Gabby Mauder, Paige Moreen, Keira Mullins, Kamdyn Periat, Peyton Ross, and Livi Wanner. This class adds eight swimmers and three divers to the program.
Friday will also mark the beginning of the season for both Nebraska and South Dakota.
