MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track and field program will begin its 2024-25 indoor season on Friday with the M City Classic. The meet is scheduled for two days of action at the University Fieldhouse, with only the men's heptathlon competing on Saturday.

ABOUT THE M CITY CLASSIC

A MINI 2023-24 GOPHER INDOOR TRACK RECAP
The University of Minnesota women's track team had another outstanding campaign, both indoors and outdoors, last season. Indoors the program finished 26th nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., with returner Anthonett Nabwe finishing 16th overall in the women's weight throw to earn her first All-American finish, earning a Second Team nod. Nabwe also led the program at the Big Ten Championships as a redshirt freshman, snagging the Big Ten crown in the event with an NCAA freshman record throw of 23.36m (76-7 3/4). As a team the women's program finished fourth out of 13 indoor teams in Geneva, Ohio.

WHO'S BACK?
After Nabwe, the Maroon and Gold welcome an additional 12 scorers from the team's Big Ten Indoor Championships roster from a season ago. Maja Maunsbach, a Swedish national, returns as a 60m hurdles bronze medalist at the conference level. Maunsbach will look to improve on her 8.14 personal best in the event that currently has her third in program history and trailing both Kimberly Golding (2017) and Emma Spagnola (2017) by just 0.01 for the school record. Other returning Big Ten scorers for Minnesota are: Diarra Sow (triple jump), Alliyah McNeil (High Jump), Erin Reidy (800m, DMR), Abigail Schaaffe (600m, 4x400m relay), Victory Godah (60m, 200m), Lexy Berger (Pole Vault), Sofia Condon (Pole Vault), Nyalaam Jok (High Jump), Zoie Dundon (800m, DMR) and Dyandra Gray (4x400m relay).

UP NEXT
Minnesota's schedule will not resume until January 10, at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Maroon and Gold will return home to host the Jack Johnson Classic on January 24-25 at the University Fieldhouse.
