Golden Gophers Successfully Close Out Minnesota Invite
MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gophers successfully close out the Minnesota Invite with one school record broken, ten 'B' cuts and 15 of personal bests.
Freshman Jacob Johnson broke his own 200 fly school record during prelims with a 1:41.56.
The 1650 free was swam for the first time of the season Saturday. Eliot Kennedy placed second with a 16:08 24, which is both a 'B' cut and personal best. Katie McCarthy came in right behind her with a 16:08.27, also a 'B' cut and personal best.
On the men's side, Bar Soloveychik hit in the 1650 'B' cut with a 15:07.58 which placed third.
Freshman Livi Wanner posted a 'B' cut in the 100 free with a 49.13, finishing third.
In the men's 200 breast, Joe Rudd posted a 'B' cut with a 1:55.47, finishing fifth.
The men's 200 fly produced two 'B' cuts for the Gophers. Jacob Johnson placed first in the finals with a 1:42.61. Kaiser Neverman also posted a 'B' cut with a 1:45.17.
The women's 400 free relay of Livi Wanner, Mina Kaljevic, Morgan Thomas and Hannah Cornish placed second with a time of 3:17.95. The men's A squad of Lovro Serdarevic, Davide Harabagiu, Kaiser Neverman, and Jacob Johnson placed third with a 2:54.27.
Gopher divers took to the platform also for the first time of the season. Drew Bennett posted a career best of 4:19.30, taking first. Freshman Braylon Goodno posted a 331.70 to take fourth.
On the women's side Vivi Del Angel took first with 357.20. Kate LaMonica came in fourth with 245.70.
The Golden Gophers are off now until January 10th when they will travel to Tempe, Ariz. to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils.
