Frank earned the silver medal in the women's weight throw in Boston, Mass.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota senior Shelby Frank earned her fourth All-America honor on Thursday night in Boston, Mass., at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in the women's weight throw, bringing home the NCAA silver medal for the second straight season.Â
Frank's silver medal earned the Grand Forks, N.D., native her second indoor All-America honor while redshirt freshman Anthonett Nabwe earned her first career All-American finish in the same event.Â
Frank's mark of 22.69m (74-5 1/2) came on her fourth throw of the competition and propelled her from fifth to second through four rounds of throws. Her mark stood the rest of the way and brought home eight team points for the Maroon and Gold. Frank bested her seed placement of No. 3 entering the indoor championships, edging out Ole Miss' Jasmine Mitchell who finished third with a mark of 22.15m (72-8).Â
Frank's finish, which matches her finish from 2023, ties the second-best in the event in program history, just behind Kaitlyn Long's NCAA championship in the event in 2018. Outside of Frank the last two seasons, the last national runner-up finish for Minnesota was Bethany Hasz, who was second in the 5000m in 2021.Â
Finishing 16th overall was Anthonett Nabwe, a fellow North Dakota native. The reigning Big Ten champion fouled her first two attempts of the competition, with her third toss of 20.08m (65-10 1/2) not being enough to get into the top nine to earn three additional throws. Nabwe's breakout season comes to a close with a Second Team All-American finish, which she pairs with her NCAA freshman record mark that she set earlier this season at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (23.36m | 76-7 3/4).Â
