ITA Men's Central Regional Begins Friday

Berths in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national indoor championships are at stake this weekend when the Minnesota men's tennis team takes part in the Central Region tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

The Gophers have four players taking part and all have been automatically advanced into the 64-player main draw. Dino Bilankov, Sebastian Gallego, Michael Sicora and Tobias Wernet will all compete for spots in the national championships, which will be held Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.

Bilankov leads the Gophers in victories with a 5-4 record, while Gallego is 4-1 after opening the season with four straight wins.

The four Gopher players will also compete in doubles play for berths in the national finals.

Qualifying play for the main draw begins on Thurs., Oct. 22. Competition in the main draw begins the following day with the championship matches in singles and doubles set for Monday.
