Gallego and Wernet Reach ITA Quarterfinals

Minnesota's Sebastian Gallego and Tobias Wernet both won twice to advance to the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional tournament on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Gallego knocked off a seeded opponent for the second straight day by rallying from a set down to oust seventh-seeded Ashley Watling of Tulsa 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Earlier in the day, he beat Watling's Tulsa teammate Rusty Turpin 6-3, 6-2. Gallego also beat the 12th seed, Marc Bruche of Iowa, on Friday. He will play top-seeded Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Wernet, seeded ninth in the draw and posted a pair of straight-set victories. He opened the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Eric West of Oklahoma State and then defeated George Chanturia of Oklahoma 6-4, 6-2. Wernet will face 11th-seeded Aleksey Bessonov of Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals.
Dino Bilankov was knocked out in the second round by eighth-seeded Ionut Beleleu of Oklahoma 7-6, 6-1. Beleleu took the first set tiebreaker 8-6 and then carried the momentum into the second set for the win.
In consolation play, Michael Sicora won his first match over Drake's Guilherme Marsiglia 7-6, 6-2, but was knocked out by Bruche 6-3, 6-3 in the second round.
The tournament continues with quarterfinal and semifinal play on Sunday. The finals are set for Monday with the winner advancing to the ITA Indoor National Championships Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.
