Bilankov Reaches Third Round of ITA Qualifying

Dino Bilankov fell one set short of reaching the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American championships during qualifying rounds on Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla.

Bilankov won his first two matches, but then lost to Brennan Boyjian of North Carolina 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 with a spot in the main draw at stake. After splitting the first two sets, Bilankov was up a break in the third set before Boyjian rallied to take the match.

Bilankov opened with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 win over Ken Nordheim of Saint Louis in his first match on Monday and ousted Andres Weber of Hawaii 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 on Tuesday. Weber had beaten the top seed in the qualifying round, Lucas Jovita of South Florida, in his opening match.

Sebastian Gallego and Tobias Wernet each won their opening matches before being knocked out in the second round. Gallego started with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over J.T. Sundling of Southern California. Wernet, who was seeded fourth in the qualifying round, beat Vanderbilt's Alex Zotov 6-3, 6-2 in his first match.

In the second round, Gallego was eliminated by Dusan Medan of Marquette 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Wenet lost to Adrian Skogeng Forberg of Mississippi 6-2, 7-6.

In doubles, Bilankov and Gallego were defeated in the first match by Dimity Lebedev and Christopher Nott of Arkansas 8-5.
