Big Ten Champs Send 21 to NCAA Prelims

The Big Ten champion Golden Gopher men’s track & field team will send 21 student-athletes, including its 4x400-meter relay, to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on May 27-29. The NCAA switched post-season formats for the outdoor track championships going from four regional sites to East and West preliminary round sites. The East NCAA Preliminary Rounds will be hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
The top 12 individuals and relays from the preliminary rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships, June 9-12, at the University of Oregon. The decathlon advances the top 24 athletes to the NCAA meet without a preliminary round. R.J. McGinnis will make his third NCAA appearance in the event.
Minnesota was represented by 17 athletes at last year’s NCAA Midwest Region Championships.

Raymond Blackledge – Triple jump
Ben Blankenship – 1,500m

Oladipo Fagbemi – Triple jump
Matt Fisher – High jump
Pieter Gagnon – 10,000m
Micah Hegerle – Hammer, Discus
John Holton, 4x400m relay
Paul Hoplin - Javelin
Sean King – 100m
Tyler Kleinhuizen – Discus, Hammer
David Pachuta – 800m, 4x400m relay
Ben Peterson – Pole vault
Andy Richardson – 1,500m
Chris Rombough – 5,000m
Brock Spandl – Pole vault
Logan Stroman – 4x400m relay
Mike Torchia – 5,000m
