The Minnesota men’s track & field team competed in two locals meets on Thursday; the Golden Gophers’ final tune-up for next weekend’s Big Ten Championships. The Gopher throwers competed in a throwing invitational, which was part of the Hamline Unsaintly Meet.
Minnesota won three throwing events contested at Bierman Field with the titlists all posting either career or season-best marks.
Micah Hegerle won the discus with a career-best toss of 180 feet, 1 inch, a distance that ranks seventh in school history. Trey Davis was third with a career-best mark of 173-8.
Jake Malm captured the victory in the javelin with a career-best effort of 188-9, good for No. 9 on the Gophers’ all-time list. Tyler Kleinhuizen added the win in the shot put with a season-best throw of 54-7 1/4.
The Gophers also competed in the St. Thomas Quadrangular. Results from that meet are expected shortly.
Alex Migit won both hurdles events in career-best times to lead the Gophers at the St. Thomas Quad. Migit clocked a time of 14.71 seconds to capture the 110-meter high hurdles title, then won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.40 seconds. He also anchored the 4x400-meter relay, who along with Cameron Boy, Max Hanson and Mike Shelendich, ran a time of 3:21.66.
Other Gophers joined in on clocked career best times. Jacob Capek won the 400 meters in a career-best time of 48.01 seconds, while Steve Sulkin placed first in the 1,500 in a time of 3:53.58. Andrew Larsen added the win in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:30.67.
Completing the list of winners on the track was the 4x100-meter relay of Ryan Todhunter, Sean King, Boy and Oladipo Fagbemi, which crossed the finish line in 41.16 seconds.
Minnesota won three field events. Matt Clauer matched a season best by clearing 6-8 1/2 in the high jump. Brock Spandl won the pole vault with a height of 16-7 1/2, and Fagbemi took the long jump with a leap of 23-0 3/4.
