Day One Results - Consolation Round

The Minnesota men's tennis team kicked off their fall season in style today at the Penn Invitational. The Gophers found much success as both doubles duos advanced to the quarterfinals while two individuals also pushed forward through two rounds into the next stage of the singles bracket.

After receiving a bye in the opening round, a refreshed team of Brendan Ruddock and Eric Frueh faced Michael Lin and Ben Quazzo of Princeton, coming away with an 8-6 victory. Juan Pablo Ramirez and Tucker Saxon joined forces to defeat Jack Felich and Holger Norregaard (NJIT), 8-2, in the round of 32. In the second stage, the duo moved past Drexel's Dan Hansen and Srinivasan Jeganathan in an extended 9-7 battle.

Ramirez and Saxon continued their success in the singles competition. Ramirez beat Kristian Marquart 6-4, 6-2, while Saxon overcame Hicham Belkssir in extra sets (2-6, 6-4, 11-9). Ruddock and Frueh both fell in their respective starter matches but stay alive to vie for the consolation prize.

All main singles quarterfinal draws are set to start at 9:00 a.m. with consolation rounds beginning around 10:30. Doubles action is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
