After three days of competition, the Minnesota men's tennis team wrapped up the Penn Invitational on a high note today. Gopher players only remained in contention for the doubles championship, but the Maroon and Gold made their matches count, competing in the semifinal round of their respective flights to start the day.

Juan Pablo Ramirez and Tucker Saxon had the highest finish for Minnesota on the weekend, claiming the championship title in the Doubles B Flight. The pair first trounced Dan Hirschberg and Ivan Kravtchenko (Brown), 8-5, then defeated Vim De Alwiss and Ismael Lahlou of host Penn 9-8 in the final.

Eric Frueh and Brendan Ruddock, despite a tough fight, fell to Brown's Will Spector and Justin To, 9-7, to end their run in Philadelphia.

"Overall it was a weekend where we learned what we need to work on," said Minnesota head coach Geoff Young. "There were no breakout performances, but there were some positives as well, especially in doubles play. In singles we need to simply get better."

Other members of the team will continue the fall season at the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament runs from October 1-7.
