Gophers Close Weekend at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 22 University of Minnesota men's cross country team finished 29th at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday among a stacked field of Division I programs.
The Gophers tallied 629 team points at Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course behind Derek Storkel's pacing. The senior led a small pack of Gophers with a 95th-place finish (24:20), one second ahead of Andrew Larsen in 97th (24:21).
Marcus Paulson crossed the finish line in 24:31 to finish in 127th while Adam Zutz came in 138th with a time of 24:34. Alex Brend came in 172nd with a time of 24:49 to close out Minnesota's scoring.
Other Gopher finishers included Riley Macon (211th in team standings, 229th overall, 25:19), Steve Sulkin (224th in team standings, 247th overall, 25:32), John Simons (257th overall, 25:41) and Blayne Dulian (278th overall, 26:23).
Northern Arizona earned the team title with 121 points while Kemoy Campbell of Arkansas finished first individually at 23:10.
Minnesota also had several runners compete in the event's open race with Christian Skaret setting the tone in 15th (24:59). Bob Nicolls finished 18th with a time of 25:04 while Aaron Bartnik edged teammate Cole O'Brien for 30th and 31st, respectively. Bartnik came in at 25:21 while O'Brien crossed the line in 25:29.
The Gophers return to action on Nov. 3 with the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.
