The Minnesota men's tennis team continued play at the Big Ten Singles Tournament in West Lafayette, Ind. Saturday. The Gophers, represented by juniors Eric Frueh and Tucker Saxon, sophomore Ruben Weber, and Jeremy Lynn, dropped their lone doubles match of the day and continued singles action in the consolation draw.
The day began with doubles.
After going 3-0 to reach the semifinal round to begin the tournament, teammates Eric Frueh and Ruben Weber dropped an 8-5 decision to Marc Herrmann and Beauregard Treyz of Nebraska to end their run.
Weber continued a strong start to the fall in the singles consolation draw, however. The sophomore answered his doubles loss to a tandem from Nebraska by moving on to the Round of 32 in singles with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 win over the Huskers' Court Clark.
To move on to the Round of 16, Weber eliminated Michigan State's Will Davis 7-6 (3), 2-1 (retire). He will take on Chase Tomlins of Iowa at 9 a.m. Sunday and will be the only Minnesota player in action.
Following this weekend, the team will welcome Penn, Dartmouth, Princeton, Denver, Western Michigan, and DePaul to the Baseline Tennis Center Oct. 31-Nov. 3 for the Gopher Invitational.
