FLUSHING, N.Y. - Minnesota men's tennis senior Leandro Toledo fell 6-3, 7-5 against No. 18-ranked Denis Nguyen of Harvard in the first round of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships' consolation draw at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Friday.

The match marked the end of the fall season for the Gophers.

The No. 22-ranked player in the nation, Toledo made his second-career appearance at the prestigious, 32-player tournament. He became the first Gopher to qualify for the event since 2002 when he was a sophomore in 2012. The loss dropped Toledo to 7-4 on the fall season. All four losses came against top-20 opponents.

Nguyen, who improved to 8-5 on the fall, will play second-seeded and top-ranked Julian Lenz of Baylor in the consolation quarterfinal round.

Going into his final spring, Toledo's career singles record will stand at 78-36. Seventeen of those wins have come against ranked opponents.

Minnesota's spring season opens Jan. 17 with matches against Marquette and South Dakota State and the Baseline Tennis Center.
