Throughout the summer we will be we will be getting an update on what some of the Golden Gopher men's tennis players are up to. We started with Jeremy Lynn last week and got the chance to ask Sophomore Felix Corwin a couple questions this week.

Gopher Sports: What have you been up to this summer? Have you seen any of the other players? Any big plans for the rest of it?
Felix Corwin: So far the summer for me has been non-stop tennis. I have been training a lot and have played in four tournaments so far (all of them around the Midwest). I have also been able to spend some quality time at home which is precious... partly because we just recently got a puppy who consumes all of our attention. This past weekend, the Milwaukee music festival Summerfest wrapped up. I was fortunate enough to go to a few of the concerts with my friends.
I was back on campus a couple weeks ago for the US Open Qualifying tournament. I got to see the both of the coaches and a few of the guys on the team while I was there. It was a real treat.
As for the rest of the summer, I am not working at all so it looks to be a good mix of tennis and relaxation. Throughout the second half of July and August I am playing a number of low-level professional tournaments around Illinois. Until then, I plan on training here at home in Elm Grove, Wis.
GS: Can you talk about the tournaments you have been playing in and what is was like to win the US Open Sectional Qualifying Tournament?
FC: I have already played a few events this summer. I played a couple Wild Card tournaments that feed into the tournaments I will be playing in Illinois these next months. I made the final in one and won the other. So that was a good start to the summer. The US Open Qualifying tournament went really well also. I won the tournament relatively handily and with that victory I qualified for a final tournament in New Haven, Conn. The winner of that one gets into the Qualifying rounds of the US Open.
GS: Best place to hang out on campus?
FC: This past year my favorite place to hangout was the 17th Avenue Dorm. It was super convenient because it was right across the street from the tennis center and it is obviously where my roommate Matic (Spec) and I slept. The two of us and a few of our other buddies spent many hours hanging out in the study rooms and dining hall of the dorm.
GS: Jeremy Lynn said when the beat comes on you can bust a magical move. Is this true?
FC: That is very funny the Jeremy decided to say that. I must admit I am not the greatest dancer but it does not stop me from trying by any means.
GS: Celebrity Crush?
FC: January Jones. At the start of the summer, my older brother Tim got me into the show Mad Men. Once I started that, I immediately fell in love with Jones' character, Betty Draper.
GS: What is your strangest talent?
FC: I am an above average hacky sacker and I can eat Chipotle "Quesarritos" with the best of them.
GS: What is one thing you cannot live without?
FC: I cannot live without a healthy lifestyle. Any day I spend not doing much exercise I just feel uncomfortable. Athletics and outdoor activities are a huge part of my life.
GS: If you could have any job and money was not an object what would you do and why?
FC: I would be a professional tennis player. I would get to not only do what I love, but travel the world at the same time.
GS: Most looking forward to when the school year starts back up?
FC: I am most excited to see my buddies from the team. I look forward to spending some quality time with them in our new apartment as well as getting to know the incoming freshmen.
