Gophers Beat Green Bay 5-2

The Gophers bounced back with a strong win tonight topping UW-Green Bay 5-2 with singles victories in the No. 1-5 spots.
"It was a very tough match like we expected. Wisconsin-Green Bay has had really good teams the last five or six years. I credit them because they came here ready to go, head coach Geoff Young said. "We got into some trouble throughout the match but we were able to pick up our game. It was a really great match for us tonight."
UWGB was able to take the doubles point on the evening. Matic Spec and Jeremy Lynn partnered up for their second straight together recording a 6-0 win over Rowan Isaaks and Miles McDowall.
The Phoenix took the next two doubles matches. They were up in both but the Gophers made it close. At the No. 2 spot freshmen Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin charged back but fell in a tight 7-5 battle.
In singles Marino Alpeza came won his second straight and moves to 8-6 on the season topping Joey Leto (6-4, 6-0). Krstanovic came through with a (6-0, 7-6 (5)) win at the No. 4 spot to put the Gophers in the lead.
UWGB tied it back up 2-2 with a win at the No. 6 spot but Spec put Minnesota back into the lead with a (7-5, 6-2) win at the No. 1 spot.
Ruben Weber clinched the victory winning his second straight and giving him double digits in the win column with a 10-5 record. Weber beat Howard Scott 6-4 in the first set but dropped a tough second set 7-5. He cruised to a 6-2 win in the third set.
Levin also had a comeback win to end the match. He lost a battle of a first set with Joshua Schramm 7-6 (4). He pulled out a 7-5 second set win and carried that momentum into a 6-1 third set win.
Minnesota has another match at the Baseline Tennis Center Sunday taking on No. 39 Drake at 1 p.m.
