Alpeza Grabs Win in Gophers Loss

Marino Alpeza moved his winning streak to three grabbing his eleventh match win of the season but the University of Minneota Gophers took a 6-1 loss to No. 21 Oregon this evening.
It was a tall task for the Gophers early on as Oregon took both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots 6-1 to win the point. Alpeza and Ruben Weber were battling No. 37 Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno but had their match go unfinished down 4-3 at the time.
Josip Krstanovic dropped the first singles match of the evening at the No. 3 spot. Matic Spec took on No. 71 Daan Maasland falling in the No. 1 spot. Spec is 9-8 this season.
Felix Corwin competed in the No. 5 slot and battled back in the second set after dropping the first 6-1. The second set went into a tiebreak with Corwin losing 7-6 (3).
Alpeza topped Ethan Young-Smith 6-3, 6-4 in No. 6 for the lone Gophers win of the night. Justyn Levin was defeated in the No. 4 spot. Both Corwin and Levin have nine wins this season.
The final match of the night was at the No. 2 spot. Weber fell in a tiebreak 7-6 (2) in the first set and took a 6-2 loss in the second set as the match came to an end.
The Maroon and Gold move to 5-8 on the season and will look to bounce back Sunday against No. 45 Washington at 2 p.m. Live streaming for that match can be found here.
