Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota men's tennis team won their second match of the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Oregon. This win gives them a 9-1 record on the season.
Doubles
Oregon grabbed the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Justyn Levin and Marino Alpeza fell first to the pair of Thomas Laurent and Cormac Clissold, who are ranked No. 33 in the nation.
Stefan Milicevic and Eli Ogilvy then saw their comeback fall short as Simon Stevens and Akihiro Tanaka beat them 6-3, which gave Oregon the first point of the match.
Singles
Felix Corwin got the Gophers in the win column with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over No. 124 nationally ranked Simon Stevens in the No. 2 single spot. The junior improved to 6-3 on the season.
Alpeza was next to grab a win, as he took down Ethan Young-Smith in the No. 6 singles spot by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Soon later, Oregon tied it up as No. 38 nationally ranked Laurent took down Spec 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles spot.
The Gophers would not lose a match the rest of the afternoon. Josip Krstanovic was next to win his match against Clissold in the No. 5 spot, securing the third point for Minnesota after a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Milicevic clinched the match victory for the Gophers as he beat Amos 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles spot. He improved to 8-1 in his first season in the Maroon & Gold.
After missing Friday's match, Ogilvy returned and won the final match of the day by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. The freshman beat Tanaka in the No. 4 singles spot to remain undefeated on the season.
