Gophers Take Down Nebraska for First Conference Win

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 32 University of Minnesota picked up their first Big Ten victory Friday with a 7-0 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Gophers improved to 12-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while the Cornhuskers fell to 4-10 overall. Minnesota won every match Friday with three singles matches going to the final sets.

This marks the fifth time the Maroon and Gold have won a match 7-0 this season.

Doubles
No. 69 Felix Corwin and Matic Spec took down Dylan Bednarczyk and Toby Boyner 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo improved to 17-6 overall on the season and 10-3 in dual matches.

Soon after the No. 2 pair of Justyn Levin and Eli Ogilvy clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over David Samardzija and Micah Klousia.

The No. 3 doubles spot of Josip Krstanovic and Marino Alpeza finished out their match, winning 6-4 over Chris Dean and Tomislav Antoljak.

Singles
Minnesota went up 2-0 after Alpeza finished his No. 6 singles match first with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Samardzija. Alpeza is now 14-6 overall this season and 9-4 in dual matches.

Next to finish was No. 80 Spec in the No. 1 spot. He took down Toby Boyer 6-3, 6-2 for his eighth singles victory in dual matches this season.

Josip Krstanovic clinched the victory for the Gophers with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Chris Dean in the No. 5 spot. Corwin made it 5-0 in favor of Minnesota when he took down Dylan Bednarczyk 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 from the No. 2 spot.

Ogilvy is now 10-3 in dual matches after taking down Klousia in the No. 4 spot 2-6, 6-2, 1-0. In the final match of the night, Stefan Milicevic and Tomislav Antoljak went to the final set in the No. 3 spot. Milicevic ended up coming out victorious 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 to cap off the night for the Gophers. The freshman is 17-4 overall this season and 12-2 in dual matches.
