Oracle ITA Masters: Men's Singles Draw | Men's Consolation
Milwaukee Tennis Classic: Schedule
Gopher Men's Tennis senior Matic Spec and his unlikely teammate Anna Sanford of Ohio State picked up a first-round victory representing the Big Ten at the Oracle ITA Masters mixed doubles tournament, but the duo was ousted in the second round. Spec will enter the consolation draw in singles action as well after falling in his first round match-up on Thursday.
Spec and Sanford defeated Idaho's Marianna Petrei and Northern Arizona's Tim Handel 6-4 in the first round, but fell 7-6 (2) in their second match-up of the day against Duke's Samantha Harris and Baylor's Johannes Schretter. Spec made a valiant effort in his lone singles contest of the day, coming from behind in each set to fall 7-5, 7-5 against Benjamin Hannestad of Arizona State University.
The men's consolation draw begins Friday afternoon at Pepperdine University following the men's doubles quarterfinals and the second round of the singles tournament.
Meanwhile across the country at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, a pair of Gophers doubles teams were in action. While Old Dominion's duo of Jacob Nicolussi and Michael Weindl edged out the University of Minnesota's Josip Krstanovic and Stefan Milicevic 8-5, but the Maroon & Gold earned a bit of payback quickly as Felix Corwin and Jackson Allen defeated another duo from the Monarchs, Aziz Kijametovic and Javier Jover Maestre by an 8-5 final.
Corwin and Allen will compete in the next round of the men's doubles tournament on Friday. The quartet will be in action for the singles tournament as well which begins at 8 a.m. CT.
