TULSA, Okla. — Gopher Men's Tennis senior Stefan Milicevic took part in the 2019 ITA All-American Championships this past Monday and Tuesday in Tulsa, Okla.
Milicevic, who was the lone representative for the Gophers at this year's tournament, was selected to play in the Qualifying Draw of the tournament, which began on Monday. To advance out of the Qualifying Draw and into the Main Draw of the tournament, players are required to win three matches.
Late Monday morning, Milicevic had his first match of the tournament against Brian Berdusco from the University of Florida. Berdusco, who had played in the All-American Championships a year prior, proved to be a challenging opponent for Milicevic, as the match went to three sets and lasted nearly three and a half hours in total time. However, it was Milicevic who would take the match and advance to the second round of qualifying, as he defeated Berdusco 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.
In the second round of the tournament early Tuesday morning, Milicevic was tasked with another difficult opponent, as he was set to face Wichita State senior Marius Frosa, who was taking part in his third consecutive All-American Championships. Despite a hard-fought match by Milicevic that lasted three sets, it was Frosa who came out on top, advancing by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Notable
With his first round victory against Florida's Brian Berdusco on Monday, Milicevic has officially gone four straight seasons without losing his first singles match of the fall season.
Quotable
"Being able to be back on the courts means a lot to me because I haven't played a match in five months," senior Stefan Milicevic said. "It gives me feedback on what I need to work on to get better. I like competing and learning so being able to play against the best guys in the country gives me motivation to keep improving."
