San Diego Scrimmage Moved Up to Friday
2/28/2019 12:26:00 PM | Rowing
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Gopher Rowing team will now compete Friday afternoon in its scheduled scrimmage with San Diego at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center.
Minnesota competed earlier this month against San Diego State in the same waters. The center allows bass fishermen to utilize the lake on Saturday mornings which created some rough waters affecting race times. So, the Gophers and Toreros moved their competition up a day to avoid it.
With the Mississippi still frozen, the Gophers have had limited exposure to water yet this spring season. "We finally have an opportunity to remember that we are rowers, not erg-ers," head coach Wendy Davis said. "We are excited for the chance to compete here but especially just to get back out on open water."
VENUE
The Elite Athlete Training Center is located near the City of San Diego Reservoir on Otay Lake.
FORMAT
The race will be a scrimmage and official times will not be posted, but Minnesota will face another strong test against a southern California team that has seen plenty of water this spring season.
LINEUPS (stroke-to-bow)
TBD
The race begins at 4 p.m. CT.
