Big Ten Recognizes 170 Gophers with Academic Honors

MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference honored 170 University of Minnesota student-athletes for success in the classroom with Academic All-Big Ten awards, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Representing ten winter programs, the 170 Gophers merited honors by carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in at least their second academic year at the university.
"The first year in the new Athletes Village has enhanced our student-athlete's academic performance and it shows with the great academic honors earned this spring," Director of the Lindahl Academic Center J.T. Bruett said. "With over 300 student-athletes receiving these honors throughout the 2018-19 school year, the Gophers have shown how to succeed both in competition and in the classroom."
Women's track and field led the Gophers' programs with 41 honorees followed by the men of track and field with 32 honors. Rounding out the list was women's rowing (28), women's hockey (17), baseball (15), softball (11), men's tennis (9), women's tennis (7), women's golf (6), and men's golf (4).
Lindsay Eliasen, Patty O'Brien, and Paige Peschel, were all recognized for earning perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA with O'Brien accomplishing the feat for the second-straight year.
Considering Academic All-Big Ten awards from the fall and winter, Maroon and Gold student-athletes combined for 373 honors this school year.
