Gophers Kick Off Spring Season in Rochester Against Marquette
1/14/2020 2:13:00 PM | Men's Tennis
The Minnesota men's tennis team kicks off their 2020 spring dual season this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Rochester, Minn. at the Rochester Athletic Club. The neutral site match is the first of 22 matches on the spring schedule for the Gophers.
Four members of the Maroon & Gold have the opportunity to get their first taste of dual tennis action with the squad on Saturday. True freshmen Daniel Martin, Siim Troost, and Bodin Zarkovic, as well as redshirt freshman Dylan Heap, all showcased promising fall tournament seasons where they logged their first career singles and doubles victories with the team. They now will look to contribute heavily over the course of the 2020 spring season on the young Gophers roster.
Saturday's match at the Rochester Athletic Club will also be a homecoming of sorts, as Rochester native Sebastian Vile returns to his hometown to begin his second spring season with the Gophers. "It feels a bit surreal coming back to play at the place where I was given the opportunity to achieve my goals as a tennis player," the Gopher sophomore said. "I remember when the Gophers did this years ago and I thought about how cool it would be to be on the team, and here I am. I'm excited to play on the courts I grew up on as a Gopher, and it will be a lot of fun."
Coming off of a busy fall tournament season where he finished as the ITA Central Regional Singles Runner-Up and participated at ITA Fall Nationals, senior Stefan Milicevic looks to end his four year stint with the Maroon & Gold with a bang. Milicevic currently sits at 74 career singles wins heading into 2020, which puts him 23 singles wins away from cracking the top 10 all time in career singles victories at the University of Minnesota.
