NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Minnesota men's tennis team came away with a big non conference victory on Sunday, defeating Yale University by a score of 7-0.

Coming off of a nail biting loss to Dartmouth College two days prior, the Maroon & Gold were clicking on all cylinders, with no Gophers dropping a match and only three Gophers dropping a set on the day.

The match featured doubles victories by Vlad Lobak/Siim Troost and Jackson Allen/Sebastian Vile, all of whom won their singles matches as well on the day. Stefan Milicevic and Bodin Zarkovic also earned singles wins for the Maroon & Gold.

Doubles Competition

Minnesota started their day off hot with a 2-0 sweep in doubles competition to secure the match's doubles point. Vlad Lobak and Siim Troost made quick work of Yale's Dylan King and Michael Sun in the No. 1 doubles spot, winning 6-0. The Gophers then capped off doubles play with Jackson Allen and Sebastian Vile's 6-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles spot.

Singles Competition

Carrying their momentum from doubles into singles play, the Gophers were able to quickly lock up their non conference victory over the Bulldogs with a trio of two set singles wins by Jackson Allen, Siim Troost, and Sebastian Vile. The Maroon & Gold then were able to round out singles play with three third set victories by Stefan Milicevic, Vlad Lobak, and Bodin Zarkovic, ultimately securing the 7-0 sweep for Minnesota.

Notable

Freshman Siim Troost finished his weekend out East with an undefeated record in both singles and doubles play. Troost went 1-0 (one match left unfinished) in the No. 1 doubles spot for the Gophers alongside Vlad Lobak, while also going 2-0 for the Maroon & Gold in the No. 3 singles position.

Quotable

"It's nice to return with a win this weekend, especially after such a close loss on Friday," head coach Geoff Young said. "We have a good team coming to Minneapolis this weekend so we're looking forward to practice this week."

Up Next

The Gophers will be back in action Saturday, February 15 at Baseline Tennis Center where the Maroon & Gold take on the Gauchos of UC - Santa Barbara at 1:00 p.m. CST.
