Gophers Open B1G Championships in Fifth Place After Day One

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's swimming & diving program opened the 2021 Big Ten Championships on Tuesday with 96 points, positioning the Gophers in fifth place overall entering day two.

The Gophers opened the night with a sixth place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Emily Cook, Emma Lezer, Emma Linscott and Indy Jongman touched the wall in 1:39.08.

Leading off the 800 freestyle relay, sophomore Jordan McGinty started Minnesota off strong by registering a personal best time of 1:46.86 in the 200 freestyle with her split. Minnesota ultimately placed sixth in the event, with the team of McGinty, Kate Sullivan, Rachel Butler and Kelli McCarthy posting a time of 7:13.42.

The 2021 Big Ten Championships will resume Wednesday morning, with the preliminaries beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT for the 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 500 free and 400 medley relay. Finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
