Gophers return home to Baseline on Friday
Iowa City, IA. - The Gophers closed out their longest road trip of the season with a loss against the #49 Hawkeyes. Minnesota (3-8) falls to 0-3 against ranked teams while Iowa (8-6) defeats the Gophers for the second time this season.
Doubles Play
Minnesota started off the match on the right foot by winning the doubles point in the deciding third matchup. River Hart and Zeyneb Sarioglan paired up for the third time this season and took down the pairing of Bauers & Mehra 6-4. With the doubles point in the balance at 1-1, Rachel Hanford & Dalila Said defeated Alexa Noel & Samantha Mannix 6-4.
Singles Play
The Gophers fell behind quickly in singles with straight-set losses in two matches. In the #1 singles position, Rachel Hanford drew the tough assignment of star Hawkeye freshman Alexa Noel. Noel defeated Hanford 6-1, 6-1 to move to 17-0 in her collegiate career.
The Gophers battled the Hawkeyes to third sets in the four remaining matches, but were ultimately defeated in three of the four matches to secure a 5-2 victory for the home team. Freshman Zeyneb Sarioglan picked up the lone Gophers singles victory with a three-set victory in the #6 position.
