3/28/2021 5:02:00 PM | Men's Tennis

Minnesota will take the road for three-match stretch starting next weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated the Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon, with singles play being the difference maker once again, as the Gophers won five of the six singles matches to secure the victory.

The Gophers will jump to 7-4 on the season, as they head towards a season-long three-match road trip next weekend. Indiana will falter to a 4-6 record after Sunday's loss.

Doubles Play
Rolling with the same doubles lineups as Friday evening's win against Purdue, the Maroon & Gold found success once again as they claimed two doubles victories to secure the point.

Jackson Allen and Sebastian Vile kicked things off with a 6-3 victory over the Hoosier pairing of Patrick Fletchall and Andrew Redding, while Vlad Lobak and Bodin Zarkovic closed out doubles action with a 6-4 victory as the doubles point was in the balance.

Daniel Martin and Siim Troost dropped a tough matchup against William Piekarsky/Ilya Tiraspolsky in the third doubles spot.

Singles Play
Jackson Allen paved the way for Minnesota early in doubles play, rattling off a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory against Bennett Crane.

Then, after Daniel Martin dropped his match in straight sets, Sebastian Vile and Vlad Lobak responded with a straight set victory of his own over Patrick Fletchall and Andrew Redding, respectively.

Dylan Heap and Siim Troost closed out Sunday's action, winning their matches in the third set via super-tiebreakers over their opponents.

Notable:
The Gophers won ten singles matches in their two contests this weekend against Indiana and Purdue, proving to be their most successful weekend of the season.

The two victories this weekend also secured the Maroon & Gold's second weekend sweep of the year.

What's Next?
The Gophers will head on the road for a three-match stint away from Baseline Tennis Center, starting next weekend with rematches against Northwestern on April 2, and Illinois on April 4.
