4/24/2021 5:45:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Men's Track & Field, Women's Cross Country, Women's Track & Field

The Gophers competed on a rainy day two of the Fighting Illini B1G Relays on Saturday.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Highlighted by a new Minnesota women's outdoor program record in the distance medley relay and two event titles, the Golden Gopher track & field team wrapped up this weekend's competition slate on day two of the Fighting Illini B1G Relays on Saturday.

Abby Kohut-Jackson, Sophie Schmitz, Anastasia Korzenowski, and Bethany Hasz teamed up on the winning distance medley relay for the Maroon & Gold, clocking a time of 11:03.01 to win the meet and improve on the previous Gophers' program record of 11:06.47 set by Katie Hill, Alena Brooks, Te'Shon Adderley, and Laura Docherty in 2013.

"I was excited for the women's distance medley relay today," director of track & field and cross country Matt Bingle said. "It was great effort by them to get the school record. As a whole, we took steps forward this weekend. We continue to compete well against the Big Ten each week, and that is what matters right now. We have been road warriors, and the athletes continue to push forward. The expectations are to continue improving each week and represent each other well every day."

The Minnesota women's 4x400m relay team of Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, Val Larson, and Abigail Schaaffe was also victorious, running a season-best 3:38.40 to win the event title and move into seventh among all-time Gophers.

The Maroon & Gold picked up a pair of runner-up finishes and all-time top-10 times in the women's 4x100m relay and women's 4x800m relay during Saturday's relay-heavy competition as well. The 4x100m team of Tiera Robinson-Jones, Josephs, Lauren Hansen, and Amira Young ran a season-best 45.12 seconds to earn a runner-up finish and rank seventh in Minnesota history while Molly Roach, Schmitz, Libby Halbmaier, and Erin Reidy ran 8:41.19 for second place at the meet and eighth in program history in the 4x800m relay.

Minnesota finished third in both the men's and women's 4x1600m relays as Seth Eliason, Khalid Hussein, Jack Manderscheid, and Robert Wagner finished in 16:58.59 for the men and Megan Hasz, Jaycie Thomsen, Carissa Dock, and Tate Sweeney ran 19:50.51 in the women's race.

Saturday's field events were highlighted by a pair of third-place finishes from Tiera Robinson-Jones in women's triple jump (12.01m, 39-05.00 ft.) and Mike Herauf in men's pole vault (5.06m, 16-07.25 ft.). Yahya Madar cleared a season-best 1.98m (6-06.00) to place eighth in men's high jump as well.

The Gophers compete in their lone home meet of the season, hosting Illinois and Wisconsin in the M City Classic at the University of Minnesota Track & Field Stadium on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1.
