On the men's side, this year's field includes five teams ranked in the latest CSCAA poll, including No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Cal, No. 21 Wisconsin, No. 24 Minnesota and No. 25 Arizona. Harvard is also receiving votes in the poll. The women's field is highlighted by No. 1 Texas, No. 13 Wisconsin and No. 14 Cal, while the Gopher women are receiving votes.
Rounding out the eight-team field is Harvard, Pitt and UNLV.
To this point in the season, the Minnesota men and women have only competed in dual meets. The Gopher men are 4-1 with victories over South Dakota, SMU, St. Thomas and South Dakota State and a loss to Wisconsin. The women, meanwhile, have the same wins as the men, plus victories over Nebraska and Iowa, along with the loss to the Badgers.
The Gopher men have been led this year by two-time defending NCAA champion and team captain Max McHugh, who has posted NCAA 'B' cuts in the 100 (53.07) and 200 (1:56.84) breaststroke events. The senior has won five individual races and been a part of three relay race victories this season.
