Gophers Set for B1G Invitational

Sixteen teams are slated to compete at the B1G Invitational including 10 nationally ranked programs.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Gopher rowing program returns to the water this weekend with the second annual B1G Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
The competition gets underway on Friday, April 15 with a morning session at 7:30 a.m. CT followed by an afternoon session starting at 1:15 p.m. CT. A third session is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 a.m. CT.
Set to Compete at the B1G Invitational
Minnesota will see some great competition on the water this weekend as one of 16 schools scheduled to race at the B1G Invitational including 10 programs ranked in the latest Pocock CRCA Poll. In addition to the Gophers, Wisconsin, Iowa, No. 20 Indiana, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 6 Michigan, Michigan State, No. 17 Rutgers, Notre Dame, Dartmouth, No. 19 Washington State, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 12 Virginia, No. 10 Duke, No. 7 Brown and No. 2 Stanford are scheduled to compete. The Badgers will serve as the unofficial host of the event.

Academic Excellence
The Gophers set academic records for Academic All-Big Ten honorees (42), Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (23), CRCA Scholar Athletes (14) and team cumulative GPA (3.50) last season during the 2020-21 campaign, and things have only improved so far in 2021-22 as Minnesota improved its team cumulative GPA record to 3.54 in Fall 2021.
Gophers Name Trio of Captains
The University of Minnesota rowing program and head coach Alicea Strodel have announced team captains for the 2021-22 season with Lindsay Eliasen, Gabby Mullally and Casey Wempner leading the Maroon & Gold. Eliasen and Mullally return as captains for the second-straight year while Wempner joins the leadership group this year.
Looking Ahead
Minnesota will return to the water, competing against Iowa, Oregon State, USC and Wisconsin in Iowa City on Saturday, April 30 before the Big Ten championships on Sunday, May 15 in Indianapolis.
