Gophers Qualify 40 Entries for NCAA West Prelim

The Maroon & Gold will be well-represented at the NCAA West Preliminary.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher track & field program will be well-represented at the NCAA West Preliminary as the University of Minnesota has qualified 40 entries for the NCAA first round competition, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 through Saturday, May 28 hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonnel Field.
About the NCAA West Prelim
The four-day competition takes place at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus. Qualifying individuals and relays advance to the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, held on June 8-11 at Hayward Field. Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective event earn a berth into the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. In addition, the best 24 relays times advance to the NCAA preliminaries. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The action will be live streamed via ESPN on the SEC Network+.
Gophers at the NCAA West Prelim
Minnesota has 21 entries on the women's side and 19 entries on the men's side. Both of Minnesota's relays on the women's side qualified while the men's 4x100m relay team earned a bid as well. Minnesota's women have 18 individuals competing in 15 different individual events while the men have 17 individual entries in 11 different events.
The Gopher women have multiple entries in the 100m, 400m, the 400m hurdles, and shot put. On the men's side, the depth of Minnesota's throws corps is on display with four qualifiers in hammer throw alone. The men also have multiple entries in the 100m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, triple jump and discus.
