Minnesota is back in action Tuesday vs. SDSU

COLLEGE PARK, Mary. -- The Minnesota Golden Gophers fell 15-9 to the No. 19 Maryland Terrapins on Sunday in the series finale.

Redshirt senior right-hander Richie Holetz went 4.1 innings, striking out four and giving up six earned runs. Kris Hokenson (0-1) took the loss after giving up three runs in 1.0 inning of work.

Brett Bateman, Kyle Bork and Boston Merila led the offense with two hits apiece while Ike Mezzenga and Weber Neels each hit home runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryland started the scoring with a two-run home run from Matt Woods in the bottom of the second.

Boston Merila put the Gophers on the board with an RBI groundout in the top of the third, scoring Riley Swenson, who reached on a walk.

Minnesota took its first lead of the game in the top of the fifth. They loaded the bases after hits from Bateman and Merila and an error on the Terps third baseman. After an RBI groundout from Mezzenga, three straight bases loaded walks put the 'U' up 5-2.

The lead didn't last long, however, as Maryland's Matt Shaw hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. The Terps went up 6-5 in the fifth after an RBI single.

The 'U' took the lead right back in the sixth on a two-run homer from Mezzenga, his second long ball of the series. The Terps responded right back, however, getting seven runs in the bottom of the sixth on four RBI singles and a sac fly. That brought their lead to 13-7.

UMD added one in the seventh and the eighth to go up 15-7. A Weber Neels home run in the ninth brought the score to 15-8 before an RBI groundout from Swenson made it 15-9.
