Gophers Set to Host Jack Johnson Classic

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota women's track and field team is back in the Twin Cities to host the 2024 Jack Johnson Classic from Jan. 26-27. 

About the 2024 Jack Johnson Classic
The two-day meet will start on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the women's open pole vault with the championship division to follow. The heptathlon and pentathlon will also be contested on Friday and will conclude on Saturday. Saturday's meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's open pole vault with the track events starting at 11:15 a.m. with the heptathlon 60m hurdles. The meet will run on schedule and will be available to follow live on WayzataTiming.com.

ALUMNI TAILGATE
The Gophers will host an alumni tailgate on January 27, which will run throughout the entirety of the meet on Saturday. 

LAST TIME OUT
The University of Minnesota picked up seven victories on the road at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational at the University of Michigan, with three different events posting top 10 program marks and times. Shelby Frank had another stand-out performance in the weight throw, with the reigning Big Ten champion winning the event with a mark of 23.06m (75-8), which is the No. 3 mark in the NCAA this season. 

In her first 800m as a member of the Maroon and Gold, graduate Brooke Jaworski finished with the fourth-fastest time in school history at 2:06.34. The Maroon and Gold capped off the day with a pair of performances that go down as the No. 10 marks in school history. True freshman Sofia Condon started it off with a vault of 4.00m (13-1 1/2) to finish third overall. The women's 4x400m relay team then concluded the meet with the 10th-fastest time in school history at 3:38.67. The team consisted of Jayla CampbellDyandra GrayBrooke Jaworski and Janielle Josephs now have the No. 12 time in the country. 

IN THE RANKINGS
In the first USTFCCCA national rankings the women's program came in at No. 20. Regionally the University of Minnesota sits at the No. 3 spot in the Midwest rankings. The first Event Squad rankings will come out next week while the conference rankings will drop for the first time on Feb. 5. 

UP NEXT
Minnesota will be split between the Gopher Classic and the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 3-4. The Meyo Invitational will be contested at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., while the Gopher Classic will be just a one-day meet on Feb. 3.
