The women's team finished third overall while the men were 10th.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota continued its hot start to the 2024 campaign with a third-place finish on the women's side and a 10th-place finish on the men's side at the 45th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill., on Friday morning. Ali Weimer was Minnesota's top individual finisher at ninth while Noah Kohut-Jackson was the best on the men's side at 19th overall.

The women's race was won by No. 15 Alabama with 57 team points followed by No. 1 NC State who finished with 71. Minnesota was third overall with 116 team points, edging out Louisville (121 points) and Toledo (131 points). Additionally Minnesota was able to finish in front of No. 29 Texas (169 points) and No. 10 Wisconsin (301 points).

The men's title was claimed by No. 18 Wisconsin (69 points) with No. 10 Alabama (73 points) and No. 14 Butler (126 points) rounding out the top three. Minnesota was 10th overall as a team with 263 points, beating out the likes of Louisville, Toledo, Drake, Duke and UC Davis.

Weimer's ninth-place finish came in a time of 19:49.8, which goes down as the second-fastest 6K time in school history and the fastest since 2021. Weimer's time slots her ahead of Megan Hasz (19:48.9, 2021) and just behind Bethany Hasz (19:36.4, 2021). Fellow Gopher Emma Atkinson was also quick enough on Friday to jump into the program's top 10 list for 6K events. Atkinson's time of 20:10.4 goes down as the No. 8 time in Minnesota history.

Kohut-Jackson's time of 23:32.79 also was a program top 10 time, slotting the graduate into the No. 5 spot on the 8K list at the 'U'. Kohut-Jackson's 19th place run in Chicago marks his second top 20 finish this season and the third of his career.

The other three women's scorers on Friday also crossed the finish line in personal best times. Erin Reidy was 26th overall in a time of 20:21.86, moving up eight spots over the final 1000 meters to help Minnesota finish third as a team. Fourth for the Maroon and Gold women was newcomer Nadia Phillips. The Charlotte transfer posted her fastest 6K time of her young career at 20:27.23 to finish 31st overall and fourth on the team. Fifth for Minnesota was Izzy Roemer in a time of 20:32.7 which was 35th overall.

After Kohut-Jackson's finish on the men's side it was Lucas Florsheim that was second for the Gophers. Florsheim clocked a 24:11.51 to finish 52nd overall while redshirt freshman Aidan Jones was just behind him in 60th in a 8K personal best time of 24:16.72. Minnesota's fourth and fifth finishers both posted 8K lifetime bests as well with Tanner Klumph's 24:18.18 putting him in 67th while Dan VanAcker's 24:18.76 was good enough for 69th.

Additionally in Eau Claire, Wis., at the Blugold Invitational it was redshirt sophomore Lila Branchaw who claimed the individual crown for the Gophers in a 6K time of 22:01.8. The lifetime best time saw Branchaw edge unattached teammate Caitlyn Osanai, who was the runner-up in a time of 22:09.4. Minnesota's men also competed at the Blugold Invitational with unattached freshman Nolan Sutter finishing as the meet's runner-up in a time of 24:48.1, edging fellow freshman Sam Scott in third in a time of 24:50.6.
