Minnesota Handed First Dual Meet Loss at Wisconsin

MADISON, WIS. ā The University of Minnesota swimming and diving programs fell for the first time this season, dropping a road meet at Wisconsin on Friday evening. The No. 18 Gopher men's team came up short in a close 158-142 battle to the 23rd-ranked Badgers, while the No. 23 Gopher women's team fell 201-99 to No. 15 Wisconsin.

It was another record-breaking night for Minnesota freshman Jacob Johnson, who broke his own school record in the 200 fly with a time of 1:41.70. His previous record time was 1:42.41, which he clinched in Minnesota's home opener against Army on Oct. 11.

The Gopher men's team saw four swimmers and one diver pick up individual wins on Friday. In addition to his record-breaking 200 fly win, Johnson also came out on top in the 100 fly with a time of 46.18.Ā

Kaiser Neverman also captured two wins against the Badgers, finishing first in the 100 breast with a time of 53.39, as well as in the 200 IM with a time of 1:44.45.

Ryan Slonac's time of 1:43.28 secured him a victory in the 200 back, and Bar Soloveychik claimed the 500 free in 4:17.80. In the diving well, YuTong Wang earned a win in both the 1-meter with a score of 357.15, and the 3-meter with a score of 406.13.

The Maroon & Gold women's squad saw Vivi Del Angel pick up two individual two as the junior diver claimed first in both the 1 and 3-meters with scores of 299.03 and 313.80, respectively.

The Gopher women's team is back in action next Friday against Iowa at home. The men's team is off from competition until the Minnesota Invitational, Dec. 4-7.
