Gophers Finish Fourth at Big Ten Indoors, 4x4 Team Wins B1G Title

The Gophers 4x400m relay team won its third title in the last four years.

MINNEAPOLIS – For the fifth straight year the University of Minnesota women's track and field team finished inside the top four of the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The Gophers finished fourth with 72 team points, one point out of third, in Geneva, Ohio.

Capped off by the 4x400m relay, the Gophers earned two event titles during the two-day meet with the quartet of Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, Dyandra Gray and Abigail Schaaffe joining Annie Nabwe as Big Ten Champions. The mile relay team clocked a 3:33.83, the second fastest time in school history, to claim the crown for the third time in the last four indoor Big Ten Conference meets. For Schaaffe, the title is the seventh of her career between indoor and outdoor, which is a school record for a career.

For the first time in her career Maja Maunsbach earned a medal at a Big Ten meet with the junior coming up with a lifetime best of 8.14 in the 60m hurdles final to bring home a bronze medal. The Swedish native put down a top 20 time in the nation this season to claim the medal and was just 0.01 seconds away from tying the Minnesota program record in the event.

Finishing in fourth was Diarra Sow in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.99m (42-7 1/2), a mark that came on her first attempt of the competition. Sow's podium finish was a huge bounce back for the second-year Gopher who was forced to withdrawal at last year's indoor conference meet due to injury.

A trio of Golden Gophers earned fifth-place finishes on Saturday with Odell Frye (60m), Erin Reidy (800m) and Janielle Josephs all picking up four points each for the Maroon and Gold. For Frye, her 7.37 time helped her to her highest finish at the Big Ten indoor meet since the 2022 season with a time of 7.37. In the 400m Josephs scored in her eighth career Big Ten individual final (indoors and outdoors) by clocking a season-best 53.07 out of the second heat. Erin Reidy was also a repeat finalist, making yet another appearance in the 800m final and earned the fifth-place finish with a time of 2:06.82.

Minnesota's young talent was on display on Saturday with a pair of freshmen earning some crucial points for the 'U'. Victory Godah, a freshman from Nigeria, finished in scoring position in both the 60m and the 200m, putting forth a time of 7.38 in the 60m final to finish sixth while her 24.05 was good enough for seventh overall in the 200m. In the 800m it was Zoie Dundon, a redshirt freshman, who made her mark known with a 2:07.67 to end in seventh in her first Big Ten final. For Dundon, the scoring performance was her second of the weekend after taking part in the team's DMR on Friday.

Earlier in the day the Golden Gophers had a pair of scorers in the women's high jump with Alliyah McNeil placing fifth with a clearance of 1.77m (5-9 3/4) while Nyalaam Jok ended in seventh by clearing the bar at 1.69m (5-6 1/2). Lastly, Schaaffe also scored in the 600m for Minnesota, stopping the clock in a time of 1:30.41 to finish sixth overall.
