Minnesota Holds Day One Lead Over Northwestern & Purdue

MINNEAPOLIS- The Minnesota swim and dive teams got off to a strong start in their two-day triple dual versus Northwestern and Purdue on Friday night at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Through day one of competition the women lead Purdue 135-70 and Northwestern 144-61. The men lead Purdue 145-60 and Northwestern 142-63.
Of the 20 events held on opening day, the Golden Gophers placed first in 15 of them.
Senior Bar Soloveychik had another record breaking night as he broke his own 1000 free school record with a new time of 8:52.17. His previous record was 8:52.17 set back on Jan. 10 at Arizona State.
In the diving well, junior YuTong Wang set a school record on 3-meter with a 472.05 placing first. Wang also placed first in 1-meter (402.45).
In the women's 1000, senior Eliot Kennedy swam her best of the season 9:33.64 to earn first. Katie McCarthy came in second with a 9:40.68, also a season best.
The Gophers took first in both the men's and women's 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.
In the women's 200 medley, Ava Yablonski, Ava Goodno, Morgan Thomas, and Hannah Cornish swam a season best of 1:37.21. The men's team of Casey Stowe, Kaiser Neverman, Jacob Johnson, and Davide Harabagiu also swam a season best of 1:25.27.
In the 800 free the women's squad of Anja Kaljevic, Katie McCarthy, Mina Kaljevic, and Livi Wanner touched first with a 7:07.48. The men's team of Tyler Hansen, Bar Soloveychik, Joey Tepper, and Daniel Eichel came in with a first place finish of 6:25.40.
Individually on the women's side, Anja Kaljevic touched first in the 200 free with a season best of 1:45.88, Yablonski was the winner of the 100 back with a 51.99, also a season best.
Claire Reinke was also victorious in the 200 fly beating her season's best by nearly two seconds. Freshman Livi Wanner also touched first in the 50 free (22.18).
Individually on the men's side, Max Schuerer touched first in the 100 breast with a season's best of 52.92. Freshman Jacob Johnson was also victorious in the 200 fly (1:41.94). Sophomore Ryan Slonac also brought home the victory in the 200 IM with a season best of 1:45.28.
