Men Finish Third, Women 8th at Loyola Lakefront Invite

Aidan Jones captured 14th while Nadia Phillips was 29th for Minnesota.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota's men captured a third-place finish while the women's program finished eighth at the 46th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Illinois. Redshirt sophomore Aidan Jones (23:41.14) was Minnesota's top men's runner in 14th overall while Nadia Phillips (20:21.09) was first to cross for the women in 29th.
Hannah Gapes of No. 2 NC State was the women's 6K champion (19:19.69) while Elsingi Kipruto of Louisville (23:14.44) secured the two titles on Friday. The men's team champion was No. 7 Wisconsin with 71 points while Loyola (Ill.) was second (108 points) and Minnesota was third (111 points). The Wolfpack of NC State won the women's team title with 34 points while the rest of the top five included No. 26 Northwestern (59 points), RV Gonzaga (123 points), No. 11 Washington (141 points) and No. 30 Boston College (165 points).
Jones was the top finisher among Minnesota's scoring lineup (14-21-22-26-28) in a time of 23:51.14, which was about 25 seconds faster than Jones ran at the same event in 2024. Jones' 14th-place finish improved him from 60th in Chicago a season ago. Emmet Anderson was second in the lineup for the Maroon and Gold in a time of 23:58.66, over 20 seconds faster than at the same event in 2024 where Anderson was just 71st.
Sam Scott was the third Gopher to cross the finish line on Friday, coming in 22nd overall. Scott's 24:00.39 was a lifetime best at the 8K distance. Jaedyn Chase made his debut in a Minnesota uniform and was fourth for the Golden Gophers in 26th overall in a time of 24:09.44. Nolan Sutter was the fifth member of the 'U' to cross the finish line, rounding out the Gopher top five with a time of 24:12.32.
Minnesota's women finished eighth overall as a team (200 points), finishing ahead of three USTFCCCA ranked opponents in No. 18 UNC, No. 7 Providence and No. 21 Wisconsin. For the first time in her Minnesota career, Phillips led Minnesota's lineup at a cross country meet. Phillips' place of 29th overall is her best career finish away from Minneapolis in her career. Taylor Isabel was close behind in 31st overall in a time of 20:25.26, 66 seconds faster than what the St. Paul, Minn., native ran at the same course in 2024. Isabelle Schmitz was the third member of the Maroon and Gold in 36th in a time of 20:28.23 with Izzy Roemer in fourth in 55th overall at 20:49.46. Closing from 79th at 3K to 56th at the finish was Zoie Dundon to round out Minnesota's scoring lineup in a time of 20:49.79.
