MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota swimming and diving's Maddy Olson has been named to the U.S. World Teams coaching staff at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, it has been announced.
Olson, who was recently promoted to associate head coach for the Golden Gophers, will serve as assistant coach for the Open Water Team at the Championships, set to be held in Singapore from July 11 to August 3.
The open water events are scheduled for July 15-20 at Palawan Beach on Sentosa Island. Among the competitions set to take place are individual 5km and 10km races for men and women and a mixed 4x1500m relay
In addition, there are also men's and women's 3km knockout sprints, a bracket-style event where all swimmers initially race 1500 meters. From there, the top 10 from each heat advance to the next round to race 1000 meters in two heats, before the final 10 advance to race 500 meters. The winner at the end of the last 500m will be crowned the winner.
Olson will have at least one familiar face on the roster as Minnesota graduate student Joey Tepper was named to the U.S. Open Water Worlds Team in April.
