The No. 45 University of Minnesota Gophers went 2-0 at Baseline on Saturday, defeating Army 7-0 and Illinois State 6-1. The Gophers are now 5-3 at home.
"It was a lot of tennis today with two matches, but good for us to learn from and we are looking forward to this weekend against two good opponents," head coach Geoff Young said.
Minnesota started the day with a sweep of Army. Marino Alpeza and Ruben Weber took home the first win for the Gophers, defeating Grant Riechmann and Harrison McCormick of Army 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin secured the doubles point, winning 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. The match at the No. 2 spot went unfinished, with Army up 5-3 over Matic Spec and Jeremy Lynn.
Lynn earned the final of six singles victories in a closely fought match at the No. 6 spot, winning 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4). Levin and Weber both earned 6-3, 6-3 wins at the No. 3 and 2 spot, with Weber clinching the win for the Gophers.
The remaining three matches were played out, with Alpeza, Spec and Corwin taking home wins.
The Gophers stayed strong in the second match of the day, winning 6-1 against Illinois State.
Krstanovic and Levin earned the first win of the afternoon at the No. 3 spot defeating Christoffer Greve and Dylan Steffens, 6-1. As a pair, that marks their sixth win.

The match at the No. 1 ended just after the No. 2 match, and was counted as finished with Alpeza and Weber winning 6-1.
