Minneapolis, Minn. ââ'¬" The University of Minnesota improved to 5-0 on the season after defeating both Western Michigan and Green Bay tonight at Baseline Tennis Center.

The No. 48 ranked doubles pair Felix Corwin and Matic Spec started the morning with a 6-1 win over Maik Steiner and Jannik Opitz, remaining undefeated on the season. Marino Alpeza and Eli Ogilvy rallied but fell short to Kennosuke Nouchi and Daniel Loebel 6-3. Western Michigan would go on to win the third doubles set as Justyn Levin and Stefan Milicevic dropped their set to Billy Heckman and Nick Schnobel by a score of 6-4.

Spec, ranked No. 42 in the nation, grabbed the first singles victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nouchi, evening the match at one win apiece. Shortly later, Levin dropped his match to Eric Olivarez 6-4, 6-0, giving Western Michigan a 2-1 lead.

Milicevic evened it out quickly for the Gophers after battling to a 7-5, 7-5 win over Opitz. After a strong second set, Alpeza fell to Matej Svjetlicic 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, giving the Broncos a 3-2 lead.

Corwin won in straight sets, both of which went to tiebreakers. He defeated Matt Hamilton 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4). It was just moments later when Ogilvy captured the fourth win for Minnesota, giving the Gophers the win 4-3. The freshman defeated Maik Steiner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Alpeza and Ogilvy started off the second match with a 6-2 victory over Florian Kraenzler and Charlie Ridout then soon after Corwin and Spec clinched the doubles point by defeating Marei Kostadinov and Miles McDowall 6-2. Jesse Sprinkel and Milicevic were beating Ivan Radomirovic and Josh Schramm 5-2 before the match was stopped due the point being clinched.

George Lovitt picked up the first Gopher victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ridout then Spec defeated Kraenzler 6-1, 6-4 to put Minnesota up 3-0.

Alpeza clinched the fifth win of the season for the Maroon and Gold when he defeated Radomirovic in the No. 6 spot 6-4, 6-4.

Corwin battled out a 6-4, 6-3 win against Kostadinov from the No. 2 spot while Milicevic, in the No. 3 spot, defeated Schramm 6-3, 6-4. Josip Krstanovic came back in the first set to win 7-5 then battled to win the second set 7-6(3).
