Coach Young Wins 200th Career Match

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Gophers began their homestand Friday night against Middle Tennessee State and picked up their eighth victory of the season by a score of 6-1. Friday's win marked the 200th career victory for head coach Geoff Young.

Doubles

The No. 3 Minnesota doubles pair of Jesse Sprinkel and Stefan Milicevic were first to finish, dropping their set to Gian Issa and Miguel Negre Fernandez 6-4. In the No. 2 doubles spot, Marino Alpeza and Justyn Levin picked up a win over Max Rauch and Nicolas Buitrago Machado by a score of 6-4.

Shortly later, the No. 22 nationally ranked pair or Felix Corwin and Matic Spec secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore and Tom Moonen in the No. 1 doubles spot. The pair extended their win streak to ten games and remain undefeated on the season.

Singles
Corwin was the first to get a singles victory for the Gophers, as he defeated Moonen 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Josip Krstanovic quickly made it a 3-0 Minnesota lead, beating Rauch 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles spot.

Spec, ranked No. 51 in the latest ITA National rankings, secured a victory for the Maroon & Gold as he beat Raschiatore 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles. The junior improved to 6-2 on the year.

Alpeza picked up another Gophers win, defeating Luis Morillo Diaz 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 in the No. 4 spot. George Lovitt lost his first match of the season in the No. 6 spot, as Issa beat him 3-6, 6-4, 1-0.

The final match to finish was No. 113 ranked Milicevic, who grabbed the sixth Minnesota win as he beat Fernandez 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the No. 3 spot. The freshman improved to 7-1 in his first season as a Gopher.

The Gophers return to action this Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Oregon at Baseline Tennis Center, for the second of five home matches of their homestand. You can follow all of the action this year on the Gophers' Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
